A community vaccination event planned for Friday at the Marion County Fairgrounds in Summit has been canceled.

The event, sponsored by the Marion County Health Unit, would have used the Johnson and Johnson one-dose vaccine.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and the Food and Drug Administration said Tuesday they were investigating unusual blood clots that occurred 6 to 13 days after people received the Johnson and Johnson vaccine. More than 6.8 million doses of the J&J vaccine have been administered in the U.S., the vast majority with no or mild side effects.

The Arkansas Department of Health announced Tuesday that it was canceling vaccination events using that particular vaccine.

For questions, call the Marion County Health Unit at 870-449-4259.
