A Louisiana woman charged with purposely smashing her car into a home and endangering a number of relatives, including her own grandchildren, appeared in Baxter County Circuit Court Monday.

Forty-nine-year-old Shannon Marie Langevin of Prairieville, Louisiana entered a not guilty plea to the charges against her.

Langevin was reported to have come to the residence, a vacation rental along Larkspur Lane, on April 7 in what was described as an agitated and highly intoxicated state.

She is alleged to have attempted to take two of her small grandchildren out of the house with the reported intention of leaving with them.

According to investigative reports, the mother of the two children refused to allow Langevin to take them and a shouting match ensued between the two women and Langevin was “escorted” outside and the doors were reported to have been locked behind her.

At some point, Langevin got into her rental vehicle, put it in reverse and plowed through sliding glass doors leading into what was described as the basement area of the house.

The vehicle was reported to have traveled approximately six feet into the room where two of Langevin’s grandchildren had been playing a short while before. One witness told investigators the curtains were drawn on the glass doors and Langevin would not have known whether the room was occupied or not when she plowed the car into the space.

The people in the house were listed as being from Georgia, Louisiana, Virginia and Mountain Home and most were reported to be related to Langevin.

There is no indication in records made public to this point as to why Langevin was attempting to leave with her minor grandchildren, or where she intended to travel with them.

She was reported to have fought with some of those in the house when she met resistance to her efforts to leave with the small children.

Her charges include aggravated assault, assault on a family or household member, endangering the welfare of a minor, criminal mischief and driving while intoxicated.

Several of the charges carry multiple counts.

She has been an inmate in the Baxter County jail since being arrested the day of the incident, with bond set at $25,000. On Monday, her bond was lowered to $10,000. There were a number of conditions attached to the bond, including having no contact with the victims, consuming no alcohol and not getting behinc the wheel of a motor vehicle.

Initial reports estimated damage to the house at “well over” $5,000.

No one was injured in the incident, according to the probable cause affidavit.
