State tournaments set for this week; MH to host Class 5A softball

A total of 15 teams will be competing in this week’s state tournaments for baseball and softball. Mountain Home’s softball team will have the advantage of being in front of the home crowd as it hosts the Class 5A State Tournament.

The majority of the Class 5A softball games will be played at Freedom Field at McClain Park. Half of the opening round games on Thursday will also be held at Keller Park. A total of 16 teams will be in Mountain Home for the tournament.

The Lady Bombers’ opening opponent will be Sheridan. Mountain Home enters the tournament as the fourth-seeded team from the 5A-West with a record of 15-10. The Lady Yellowjackets are the champions of the 5A-South. The first pitch at Freedom Field is scheduled for Thursday at 3 p.m.

Four local softball teams will begin action in the Class 2A State Tournament Thursday at Carlisle. At Bob Hillman Field, Cotter meets Parkers Chapel at 10 a.m., and Melbourne faces McCrory at 12:30. At Bobby Glover Field, Flippin takes on Horation at 12:30, and Salem plays Carlisle at 5:30.

Two area schools will compete in the Class 1A State Softball Tournament Thursday at Izard County High School in Brockwell. Jasper will be paired with Sacred Heart at 10, and Mammoth Spring meets Bradley at 5:30.

Valley Springs will be in Ashdown Thursday for the Class 3A State Softball Tournament. The Lady Tigers face Atkins at 10.

Three local baseball teams will compete in the Class 2A State Tournament on Thursday. At Lonoke, Yellville-Summit takes on Woodlawn at 10, and Salem plays McCrory at 5:30. Flippin will be matched up with Parkers Chapel at 12:30 at Carlisle.

Izard County will be the host school for the Class 1A State Baseball Tournament beginning Thursday. At Viola, Mammoth Spring meets Ouachita at 10, and Viola faces Hermitage at 3. At Izard County High School in Brockwell, the host Cougars take on Taylor at 5:30.

Harrison will be in Morrilton on Thursday for the start of the Class 4A State Tournament. The Goblins play Camden Fairview at 3.
