Friday results include MH getting 8-inning win in state softball quarterfinals

The Mountain Home High School softball team played on the home field and was victorious as the quarterfinals of the Class 5A State Tournament were held at McClain Park. The Lady Bombers needed eight innings Friday, but they were able to get past Beebe 2-1 on Freedom Field.
Mountain Home’s semifinal opponent will be Greenwood. The Lady Bulldogs breezed past Marion by a final of 11-5.
In the first two quarterfinal games of the day, Benton topped White Hall 4-1, and Greene County Tech routed Hot Springs Lakeside 11-1.

Salem’s softball season came to an end in the quarterfinals of the Class 2A State Tournament at Carlisle. The Lady Greyhounds fell to Spring Hill 2-0.

Three local baseball teams took part in the quarterfinals of the Class 1A State Tournament at Izard County High School in Brockwell.
Viola’s quest to defend the most recent state championship continues after an easy win. The Longhorns shut out Wonderview 12-0.
Mammoth Spring will be Viola’s next opponent in the semifinals after they pounded Nemo Vista 14-2. The Bears improve to 15-6 on the season.
Izard County also moves to the final four after blanking Guy-Perkins 10-0. Noah Everett, Denton Reiley and Chase Orf combined for a one-hit shutout on the mound with 12 strikeouts. Landon McBride led the Cougar offense with two hits and three RBIs, Gunner Gleghorn and Noah Everett each provided two hits and drove in a run, Caleb Faulkner had a hit and an RBI, and Coby Everett added a base hit. Izard County is now 18-5 on the year.

Harrison’s baseball team was eliminated from the Class 4A State Tournament at Morrilton. The Goblins lost to Valley View 8-2 in the quarterfinals.
