An early morning house fire Wednesday has destroyed a rural Gassville residence.

The Midway Volunteer Fire Department was paged out around 12:30 a.m. Wednesday morning for a fire at a residence at 592 County Road 714. When firefighters arrived on scene, they found the residence fully engulfed.

Midway Fire Department Chief Jerry Verble says that firefighters spent about six hours on the scene. The Grover Township Fire Department and the Cotter-Gassville Rural Fire Departments were also called out to assist with the blaze.

The house was unable to be saved and was a total loss.

Verble says a smoke alarm awoke the family, who found the house already filled with smoke. The family fled without being able to save any personal items.
