The Mountain Home School Board held its regular May meeting Thursday night with many items of discussion, including the mask mandate. Superintendent Dr. Jake Long says the district has decided to lift the mask mandate effective Friday. That means students, staff and visitors will not be required to wear masks in any of the school buildings, but those who wish to may continue.

May is traditionally a big month for personnel changes and this year is no exception. The board approved a large number of resignations and new hires. The complete list is available below.

An expenditure of just over $142,580 was approved for the purchase of bulk supplemental school supplies for next school year which will be for all grades. This is the third year the district will provide school supplies for students.

The board approved spending $39,000 for the band program. Of that amount, $21,000 is for the purchase of new instruments including nine drums, four baritone horns and four french horns. The other $18,000 is for cleaning and maintenance of school owned band instruments.

A bid for just over $37,000 was approved for football equipment to be used in 7th grade, the junior high and high school.

The board also heard an update on some projects in the district. At the junior high, 60% of the wall panels, soffit and trims have been completed. The roof is 20% complete, but panel removal has been delayed due to the weather. The board was informed the project is still on schedule to be complete before school starts in August.

The district has completed the paving of the parking area at McClain Park. They are still waiting on materials to come in for the playground at Hackler Intermediate School.
