A Lakeview man has been arrested for theft and forgery charges after a Bull Shoals Police Department patrolman spotted a vehicle that had been reported stolen.

Matthew Autry faces two felonies — Theft by Receiving and Forgery — as well as two misdemeanors stemming from the Friday arrest, which began with Patrolman Jeffery Anderson attempting to stop a maroon 1999 Toyota Camry traveling northbound on Bull Shoals Dam Boulevard.

Before Anderson could turn on his emergency blue lights, the car, which Anderson believed to be reported as being stolen, pulled into a parking lot Central Boulevard.

A man, later identified as Autry, exited the vehicle as was detained by Anderson. Autry reportedly told the officer that the vehicle was not stolen and that his roommate, the owner of the vehicle, was letting him use it. Anderson contacted the Baxter County Sheriff’s Office, which confirmed that the vehicle had been reported stolen.

While searching the Camry, Anderson found a medical marijuana prescription vial that did not belong to Autry. Inside the vial was what was believed to be marijuana and a burnt marijuana roach.

Inside of Autry’s wallet, Anderson allegedly found $1,425 in counterfeit U.S. currency. It was learned that Autry does not have a valid Arkansas driver’s license.

Autry was placed under arrested and taken to the Marion County Law Enforcement Center, where he is being held in lieu of a $25,000 bond.
