The Baxter Regional Hospital Foundation is known for funding its community houses on the hospital campus, and one of the houses provides essential services for local seniors and the aging. The Mruk Family Education Center on Aging is dedicated to helping Twin Lakes Area residents live a longer, healthier life.

The center provides several different services. Center coordinator Diahanne Van Gulick was a recent guest of the Talk of the Town on KTLO-FM, and she says the most popular program they have is Rock Steady Boxing for those battling Parkinson’s disease.

One of the Mruk Center’s newer programs started earlier this month. Van Gulick says it’s series for those with a diagnosis of early-stage dementia.

The program is in the middle of an eight-week run. Experts will be available to discuss activities patients can and should not be doing and any legal matters that may arise.

In addition to Rock Steady Boxing, the center has another exercise program available. Van Gulick says now that more businesses and other locations are opening back up, this program is important.

The center also includes a classroom for education and support services related to home safety, care giving, geriatric medicine and other aging issues. It also offers different support group meetings. For more information or to volunteer, contact Van Gulick at 870-508-3880.
