ORIGINAL STORY:

The Arkansas Department of Transportation has announced the closure of U.S. Highway 62/63/412 at the bridge over the Spring River in Ravenden.

Travel to Jonesboro and Paragould is impacted and ARDOT says the closure is due to “a routine bridge inspection that found a safety concern” on the structure. KAIT TV in Jonesboro reports inspectors “found structural damage to the bridge and immediately shut it down.” The station also reports the ARDOT District 10 engineer says the inspection “uncovered a critical safety concern.”

Detours have been established to help facilitate travel to Northeast Arkansas. ARDOT does not give an estimation of how long the closure will last, but KAIT reports the shutdown could continue until next week, with “one lane possibly open by Tuesday night.”

State Highways 90 and 67 are suggested as alternate routes.
