April sales tax numbers for both Baxter County and the City of Mountain Home continued to outpace last year’s collections, reports from county and city officials indicate.

Baxter County collected a total of $586,620 from its 1% sales tax for the month of April, keeping 58% percent of that revenue and distributing the rest among the county’s nine cities based on their population.

According to figures released by County Treasurer Jenay Mize, Baxter County’s portion of that sales tax was $338,791. That is a 3.5% increase of $11,356 in sales tax revenue compared to the April 2020 collection of $327,434.

Mountain Home Treasurer Marshella Norell reports that the city collected $400,780 in April revenue from its own 1% sales tax. That is a 2% increase of $7,930 from its April 2020 collection of $392,850. Mountain Home also received $175,903 in April revenue from the county’s 1% sales tax.

Other Baxter County cities receiving revenue from the county’s 1% sales tax included:

– Gassville, which received $29,364;

– Cotter, which received $13,707;

– Lakeview, which received $10,471;

– Norfork, which received $7,221;

– Salesville, which received $6,359;

– Briarcliff, which received $3,335; and

– Big Flat, which received $1,470.

Baxter County received $146,655 in April revenue from its 0.25% sales tax for maintenance and operations of the Baxter County Dentition Facility.

Mountain Home received $150,293 in April from its 0.375% sales tax to support its police and fire departments.

Sales tax distributions are made two months after sales taxes are collected by area businesses. April’s reports reflect area spending from February.
