Despite some unseasonably cool temperatures, Memorial Day christened the unofficial arrival of summer and tourists to Mountain Home and the Twin Lakes Area.
Early observations show a good start to the season, according to officials.
Mountain Home Mayor Hillrey Adams says the opening night of the Baxter Summer Concert Series at Hickory Park drew visitors from 10 states and 67 separate communities, according to a survey of ZIP codes collected by officials.
The concert Saturday night capped a very busy weekend for the Mountain Home Entertainment District, which is entering its second year of existence.
Mountain Home Area Chamber of Commerce President and CEO Dani Pugsley says she encountered a significant number of visitors while enjoying the holiday weekend.

While the weather wasn’t great, Pugsley says there was plenty of turnout, including at the opening of one of the city’s newest eateries.

Pugsley says she feels that the area events featuring local vendors and businesses a great way to show off what Mountain Home has to offer.

Memorial Day weekend was the first of multiple live music performances scheduled throughout the summer. The Chamber’s own Friday Night Live series makes it’s debut this week. Pugsley says her discussions with Rickey Crawford, the booker for the Baxter Summer Concert Series, have led to a goal for the community.

The Friday Night Live series will also welcome local bands to the Farmers & Merchants Bank stage at Hickory Park on June 18, July 9, July 23, Aug. 13 and Aug. 27. Those shows will also be free to the public, and attendees are encouraged to bring their lawn chairs.
