The Mountain Home City Council approved a 75-cent-per-hour raise for municipal employees Thursday night. Council members also placed an ordinance condemning property located on Rossi Road on its first reading. The across-the-board raises apply to regular city employees and does not apply to elected officials. The pay increases are aimed to help make the city more competitive compared to the private job market.
Council members also revised the city’s job classifications and compensation plan, giving the city’s entry-level employees a chance at earning a raise every six months for the first three years of their employment.
Giving entry-level employees six-month reviews places those jobs in line with other city positions that receive twice-a-year reviews.
Council members Bob Van Haaren, Susan Stockton, Jennifer Baker, Paige Evans, Carry Manuel, Jim Bodenhamer and Nick Reed all voted in favor of the pay raises and giving six-month reviews to entry-level employees. Council member Wayne Almond did not attend Thursday’s meeting.
The condemnation ordinance addresses property located at 1207 Rossi Road. The ordinance describes the buildings on the property as being “in a state of disrepair and not fit in which to live in and nothing is being done to remedy the problem.”
Council members placed the ordinance on its first reading. An ordinance must be read three times before council members may vote to adopt it.
The 1207 Rossi Road ordinance will return for its second reading when the city council meets on July 1, at 6 p.m. at City Hall.
