The plan is only for this school year and will possibly cost the district just over $1.2 million if all employees meet the criteria. Long says the program is being funded by state and federal funds.

Long’s proposal to the board noted the district’s yearly hiring has increased each of the past three years. The district added 35 new employees in 2019, 58 in 2020 and is expected to have at least 59 new members for the 2021-2022 session. Long says this data – along with the current teacher and employee shortages state and nationwide – only increases the relevance of the plan.

Long also says the district employees are deserving of additional compensation.
