A Missouri state prisoner from Gainesville who escaped from his work detail on Tuesday has reportedly been captured. According to an Ozark County Sheriff’s Office spokesperson, 44-year-old Jason Laird was located near the Ozark County community of Brixey on Saturday.

Laird had allegedly escaped from his work detail in central Missouri. During the early morning hours on Saturday, members of the Ozark County/Douglas County Multijuristictional Task Force, Oregon County Sheriff’s Department and the Howell County SWAT Team received information and searched numerous locations for Laird. During their search, a pickup truck possibly stolen by Laird was recovered. Kandace Newton and an unidentified female were taken into custody, and at the last update, both were being held in the Ozark County Jail.

Laird was sentenced to seven-years in prison in the Missouri Department of Corrections last May in connection with 15 charges over six cases. Laird pleaded guilty to four counts of burglary, three counts of stealing firearms, tampering with a motor vehicle, stealing a motor vehicle and two counts of stealing $750 or more. The 15 charges involve six different burglaries on different occasions. Laird also attempted to escape from the Ozark County Jail in April last year and was later transferred to the Douglas County Jail in Ava.

The Ozark County Sheriff’s Office says additional information on Laird’s capture will be released as soon as possible.
