Aaron Dakota Jones
A 26-year-old Clarkridge man attempted to flee from a Mountain Home Police Officer, but was later located and arrested in a vehicle on Gray Street.
Aaron Dakota Jones remains in the Baxter County Detention Center on charges of aggravated assault on a family or household member and felony possession of a controlled substance, as well as a parole violation.
The incident leading to Jones’ arrest Thursday began when Jones allegedly ran from a Mountain Home police officer near downtown Mountain Home. The initial description of the subject described the man as white male wearing a black shirt and blue jeans.
A witness told authorities they saw a man matching the description run across the highway in the area of Gray Street, located in the blocks between the detention center and the police department. Patrolman First Class Rockie Morrell arrived in the area and located a pickup truck with three people inside.
Morrell spoke to the driver, who reportedly refused to make eye contact with the officer and looked the other direction when answering questions. The man identified him self as Dakota Jones, but that name did not generate any results in the law enforcement database. Jones then gave his name as Aaron Jones and a check of that name and the birth date alerted authorities to the warrant for aggravated assault.
When being removed from the vehicle, Jones alleged tried to remove items from his pockets. During a search, the officer located a small white baggie, containing 1.1 grams of a white, crystal-like substance.
Jones had been wanted by authorities since late May, when a warrant was issued after he allegedly stabbed a member of his household on May 18.
According to the probable-cause affidavit in that case, Baxter County authorities were called to a home on State Highway 201 North near Clarkridge for a reported stabbing. A victim was located at the residence, with a reported stab wound to the knee. The victim had bandaged the wounds themselves, had blood seeping from the bandages and pooled on the floor, but refused transport for treatment.
The victim told authorities Jones allegedly had an argument with his girlfriend in front of the residence, stormed inside the home highly agitated and proceeded to punch the glass out of one of the windows in the front door. The victim confronted Jones about the broken window and Jones allegedly produced a knife, stabbed the victim and fled the scene.
Another witness who lives at the residence told authorities they heard “yelling and a commotion” in the living room, investigated the noise, located the victim in a chair and saw the suspect leave the scene. Authorities located the alleged weapon at the scene and sent it for forensic testing, but were not able to locate Jones at that time.
Bond on the drug charges is set at $5,000, with bond on the aggravated assault charge at $15,000.
