Larry E. Branscum
A man who picked the wrong place to have an apparently drug-fueled tantrum on Christmas day in 2019 made an appearance in Baxter County Circuit Court Thursday.
Thirty-two-year-old Larry Branscum, who has listed addresses in Mountain Home, Mountain View and Flippin entered a guilty plea to his charges and was sentenced to four years probation.
The event leading to his arrest began as Branscum was walking in front of the Baxter County Sheriff’s Office.
He went off the deep end and tried to attack a Mountain Home policeman. Branscum was reported to have pulled off his shirt, and taken down his pants while throwing items from his pockets and proclaiming in a loud voice he was doing “God’s work.”
The police officer had just pulled into the lower parking lot of the 911 Center when he spotted Branscum. The officer reported the man was displaying signs of someone heavily under the influence of a drug.
When the officer got out of his patrol car, Branscum ran across Highway 62/412B screaming, making a series of profanity-laced threats. He said he was going to kill the officer.
According to the probable cause affidavit, Branscum refused all commands to keep his hands where they could be seen.
The officer said because Branscum had been reaching behind his back, he might have had a weapon. A stun gun was employed, but did not slow the charging Branscum down.
A second MHPD officer arrived and a dispatcher from the 911 Center also came to assist. When others began to converge on the scene, Branscum sat down and was handcuffed.
After a short trip across the street to the Baxter County Detention Center, Branscum said he had “dope” on his person and wanted to give it to the officer.
A small plastic bag containing a white crystal-like substance was found in one of his pockets.
Branscum was charged with possession of methamphetamine, resisting arrest and disorderly conduct.
