The Baxter County Fair has returned, and it’s brought all the familiar fair food back with it.

The fair’s carnival kicked things off Tuesday night. Opening night, which features just the carnival and food booths, is traditionally $1 admission night. This year, the carnival operator, PBJ Happee Day Shows of Marion, picked up everyone’s admission Tuesday night.

Glenn Priebe, president of the Baxter County Fair Board, talks about the fair’s opening night attendance.

Priebe says a rumor that the fair was selling only pre-packaged food this year was not true. That misconception apparently started when the fair board told vendors in the commercial building that they could offer patrons prepackaged food, but could not cook anything there inside the commercial building.

Priebe explains the reasoning behind that restriction.
