Izard County boys, Melbourne boys and girls pick up golf wins Thursday

In high school golf Thursday, the Izard County boys and the Melbourne boys and girls teams all picked up victories.

Playing at the Course at Turkey Mountain in Horseshoe Bend, the Cougars won a three-team match, shooting a 127, 11 shots ahead of second place Salem.

Elijah Wilkes of Izard County was medalist with a 40 while Denton Reiley shot a 42. Salem was led by Dryver Springstun with a 44.

The Melbourne teams picked up wins in a six-team match at Cooper’s Hawk Golf Course in Melbourne.

The Bearkatz had a team total of 121, ten shots better than second place Batesville. Viola was third, Flippin fourth and Cotter tied for fifth.

Melbourne’s Bradie Gunther was medalist with a 39. Viola was led by Braden Williams with a 47, Flippin’s top golfer was COdy Downs with a 47 and Cotter was paced by Hayden Hutson with a 50.

In girls’ action, Melbourne shot a 143, edging Batesville by three strokes. Viola was third and Flippin fourth.

Melbourne’s Sophie Love earned medalist honors with a 39. Flippin was led by Maddie Lindsey with a 45 while Viola was paced by the 49 of A.J. McCandlis.
