The Baxter County Sheriff’s Office has released the name of the kayaker that went missing on the White River Saturday afternoon.
Dalton Edwards of Beaumont, Texas, is presumed to have drowned in the river, the sheriff’s office said Monday afternoon. Authorities had withheld the man’s identity until his next of kin was notified.
The 29-year-old Edwards was on the river with others Saturday just after 1 when his watercraft tipped over. Edwards reportedly began to struggle and then disappeared under the water.
The Baxter County Sheriffs Office helicopter was launched and search for several hours Saturday afternoon, while other rescue personnel searched by boat.
Water conditions were described as “high and swift” Saturday afternoon, as all generators were in operation at Bull Shoals Dam.
