Land-based phone lines across Baxter County are apparently not operating Wednesday morning. There has not been any confirmation as to what caused the outage or when service will be restored.
The county’s 911 service is also affected, but the county has several agreements with other countywide 911 systems to cover for one another in the event of a service outage.
Baxter County 911 coordinator Mike Shetrompf says the county’s 911 calls are currently being rerouted to Independence County, who is fielding the calls and then relaying the information back to Baxter County emergency services.
Shetrompf says those calling 911 at the moment might experience slight delays as the calls are rerouted through the 911 systems.
