Hootin an Hollarin crowns 2021 queen

A large crowd turned out for the beginning of the 60th celebration of Hootin an Hollarin Thursday evening in Gainsville, where Marayia Deatherage, daughter of Sam and Trish Deatherage, was crowned 2021 Hootin an Hollarin Queen. Haddie Parker, daughter of Cindy Parker, is deputy queen. Princesses are Victoria Smith, daughter of Darin and Jessica Smith; Jessie Latham, daughter of Carol Latham; and Emory Warden, daughter of Ken and Marty Warden. Emory was also elected 2021 Miss Sweetie Pie by her fellow contestants.

This year, the queen and her court are all residents of the Gainesville area.

Hootin an Hollarin continues through Saturday and features a large crafts fair, live music, kids’ games and amusements, and, at 2 p.m. Saturday, the parade.

Each night ends with square dancing under the stars, from 9 p.m. until midnight.
