A Henderson woman is facing charges following a two-vehicle accident in late April that killed another local woman in Fulton County. Sixty-seven-year-old Kathleen Gamble was arrested last month in connection with the crash that killed 45-year-old Rebecca McClelland of Viola.

According to the Arkansas State Police, Gamble and McClelland were traveling in opposite directions on U.S. Highway 62/412 on April 30. Gamble’s vehicle reportedly crossed the center line in an area west of Viola, and its driver’s side struck the driver’s side of McClelland’s vehicle.

The probable cause affidavit states McClelland was transported to Baxter Regional Medical Center, where she was pronounced dead. Gamble was reportedly sitting in her vehicle with bloodshot, watery eyes and difficulty speaking. She allegedly admitted to the responding trooper to consuming “Xanax and a little weed.”

Gamble was transported to Baxter Regional. The trooper again spoke with her, and she reportedly said she didn’t what happened in the accident. Gamble volunteered a sample of her blood, and according to the Arkansas State Crime Laboratory in Little Rock, it came back positive for cannabinoids.

Gamble faces a felony count of negligent homicide and misdemeanor counts of DWI (drugs), driving left of center and careless and prohibited driving. She was released on her own recognizance.
