MOUNT VERNON, Mo. (AP) — A southwest Missouri man has been sentenced to 25 years in prison after he stabbed a woman last year and then showed her body to his mother.

James Pride, 42, pleaded guilty Wednesday to second-degree murder in the May 2020 death of Patricia Urange, 53, near Marionville. He had been charged with first-degree murder but agreed to a plea deal to the lesser charge.

An autopsy found Urange was stabbed 17 times, The Joplin Globe reported.

Sheriff’s deputies found Urange’s body in the back of her car after Pride’s mother reported that her son had shown her the woman’s body when she asked why a vehicle was parked near their home near Marionville.

She said her son told her he was considering cutting up the body and throwing it in a pond.
