Saturday basketball results include wins for Viola boys, Calico Rock girls

The Bobby Hulse Memorial Classic came to an end Saturday at Norfork with a few area high school basketball teams in action. In boys’ action, Viola defeated Ozark Mountain 63-57, and Mammoth Spring fell to Bergman 62-52. Calico Rock’s girls were able to top Bergman 70-66.

Two local schools sent their junior high teams to Sloan-Hendrix High School in Imboden for the opening day of the Bill McCurley Invitational Tournament.
Izard County’s girls advanced to the semifinals with a 37-15 win over Tuckerman in their first game of the season. Makensie Yancey led the Junior Lady Cougars with 14 points, and Quinn Johnson added 11.
Izard County also moved to the semifinals of the boys’ bracket by beating Mammoth Spring 54-30. The Junior Cougars were led by Kasen Black with 34 points, and Xander McCandlis chipped 13. Izard County improves to 2-0 on the year.
Mammoth Spring had a different result on the girls’ side. The Junior Lady Bears topped Bay by a final score of 42-25.
