The Mountain Home Football Bombers made their final road trip of the regular season Friday night, and it was a rough one. Brad Haworth has the details.
Listen:
No matter the sport, teams will have a bad night from time to time. Friday night was Mountain Home’s time, as the fell to Russellville 42-7. Offensively, defensively and on special teams, not much went right for the Bombers.
Russellville’s defense held the Bombers to zero first downs and just 25 yards in the first half. Meanwhile, the Cyclones racked up 278 yards of offense in the first 24 minutes, took advantage of three Mountain Home turnovers and built a 35-0 lead by halftime. Russellville ran 41 plays in the first half, to Mountain Home’s 19.
The Bombers were able to move the ball after halftime, putting together a good drive on their first possession but came away without any points. Mountain Home was able to get on the board with five seconds left, when Brady Barnett scored from 3 yards out.
The loss drops Mountain Home to 3-6 overall and 2-4 in the 6A West. The Cyclones improve to 4-5 and 2-4.
Despite the defeat, Mountain Home, with losses by Van Buren and Siloam Springs Friday night, has secured a spot in the Class 6A state playoffs. Mountain Home will be either the five or the six seed from the conference and be on the road for their first-round game.
The Bombers wrap up the regular season at home next Friday night against Little Rock Parkview.
