Two traffic stops and their aftermath resulted in a Bull Shoals man being sentenced to four years in prison during a session of Baxter County Circuit Court Monday.

Forty-eight-year-old Jayson Alan Sherer was involved in stops in August 2020 and in early November 2017.

During the stops, officers found drugs and drug paraphernalia. Sherer was put on probation in both the cases.

On Monday, Sherer pled guilty to violating the terms and conditions of his probation, and he was sentenced to prison.

In the 2017 stop, a vehicle being driven by Sherer was reported as “driving all over the road.” He was said to be “waiving his arms around and making jerking motions.”

At one point, according to the probable cause affidavit, Sherer’s vehicle crossed into the oncoming traffic lane and nearly sideswiped another car.

A man who said he caught a ride in Sherer’s car told officers he wanted out, and that Sherer’s driving “was scaring” him.

When officers inventoried the vehicle, they found a small pink case sitting on the console. When the case was opened, officers found traces of suspected methamphetamine and paraphernalia used to ingest the drug.

In the late 2020 stop, Sherer was a passenger in a vehicle stopped by a Cotter police officer. At the time, Sherer was on probation from charges stemming from the first stop.

Again, suspected methamphetamine and drug paraphernalia were found.

During the stop, Sherer admitted the illegal items were his and that the driver of the vehicle knew nothing about them.
