A woman who attacked a female deputy sheriff in the Baxter County jail late last month was declared a fugitive, after she was a no-show for an appearance in Baxter County Circuit Court Monday.

Thirty-three-year-old Sarah Paulette Lawson of St. Joe is charged with second-degree battery.

According to the probable cause affidavit, the incident occurred Sept. 21.

The deputy was in the process of distributing meals to female inmates when Lawson is alleged to have become “agitated.” She was ordered back into her cell.

Lawson is reported to have hit the deputy with her hand and to have made death threats.

A report on the incident notes the deputy had a bruise around her left eye and swelling in the same area.

The deputy also had an open cut on the bridge of her nose. According to the report, the injury was an old one that had been reopened when the inmate allegedly struck the deputy.
