Shooting investigation underway in southern Baxter County

A shooting incident in the Jordan area Monday afternoon is being investigated by the Baxter County Sheriff’s Office.

Baxter County Sheriff John Montgomery says at approximately 1:27, the 911 call center took a report from 8231 Arkansas Highway 177 South that a man had been shot at the business there and was outside injured. Google identifies the address as the location of Woods Feed & Farm Supply.

Sheriff’s personnel and EMS responded. The shooting victim was located, and emergency medical care was provided. The shooter was also contacted, and an investigation ensued. Montgomery says the shooter and the victim are related. There is a court No Contact Order in place against the victim due to prior incidents that prohibits the individual from being at the shooting location.The victim, a 42-year-old male, was air lifted to a hospital in Springfield. His condition is unknown.

The shooter was brought to the sheriff’s office to be interviewed. He claimed he was defending himself in the altercation and refused to answer questions. A search warrant was later executed at the business location to gather evidence. The firearm used in the shooting incident was seized.

Montgomery says no arrests have been made at this time. Investigators will be conferring with the prosecuting attorney, as the investigation continues. The names will be released at a later date.
