Court records show when Gregory L. Smith of Mountain Home drives or even rides in a vehicle, he is likely to be stopped and charged with possessing drugs and drug paraphernalia.

He appeared during a session of Baxter County Circuit last Thursday to face charges in a 2021 case and the revocation of suspended sentences in three 2018 cases.

Smith entered a guilty plea to his newest charges, and the state dismissed the three revocations.

Circuit Judge John Putman sentenced Smith to six years probation.

Smith’s arrests took place on:

May 17, 2021: An Arkansas State Police trooper pulled over a pickup truck driven by Smith because the right taillight was broken. Methamphetamine was found, and Smith was arrested.

Oct. 15, 2018: Two Arkansas State Police troopers stopped to investigate a pickup pulled off the highway in front of a locked gate across from a closed business. Smith was in the vehicle and was arrested when he exited the truck, and a needle fell to the ground. As Smith and the other man were being taken to jail, Smith was seen stuffing a bag into the headliner of the trooper’s patrol car. The bag was recovered. Other drugs, a bottle of vodka and more needles were found in the truck.

July 11, 2018: A Mountain Home police officer was called to investigate a vehicle parked at the local Walmart. Walmart staff members reported they believed the people in the car had been caught shoplifting on a previous occasion. Smith was in the driver’s seat. When checking the vehicle, a plastic bag containing a substance field testing positive for methamphetamine and a small set of scales covered with what appeared to suspected methamphetamine residue were located.

April 3, 2018: A Mountain Home Police Department (MHPD) officer saw what was described as a suspicious vehicle at a local convenience store. The driver moved the car to the back of the store, when the MHPD patrol car entered the area. The driver, later identified as Smith, was reported to have quickly exited the car and gone into the back of the store. Smith was reported to have a suspended driver’s license, and the license tag on the vehicle was fictitious. Two used syringes were located in Smith’s pants, and a plastic bag was found containing what Smith said was methamphetamine.

In addition to possession of drug and drug paraphernalia, Smith has been charged with a number of traffic violations.
