The Mountain Home High School basketball teams’ first road test of the season ended on a rough note, as they were swept at Paragould.

The boys’ game needed double overtime, as the Bombers fell to the Rams 69-59. Paragould led for much of the first half, but the game was back-and-forth in the second half. Mountain Home had the ball and a three-point lead, as time ticked down in regulation. Luke Proctor was fouled with 5.6 seconds left. He missed the front end of a one-and-one, and the Rams quickly grabbed the rebound. The ball went to Gavin Hall, he sank a three at half-court to tie the game, as the clock hit zero, and he was fouled in the act of shooting. His free throw to give Paragould the lead was missed, forcing the first extra period. Again, the Bombers were up three inside the final 30 seconds of overtime. Paragould had a couple of misses but got the offensive rebound both times. The ball went to Caleb Giles, and he hit a three to tie the game at 59 with 1.2 seconds left. Mountain Home’s attempt to win the game was off the mark, forcing double overtime. In the second extra period, the Bombers were held scoreless, as the Rams went on to win by 10.

Proctor led Mountain Home with 29 points. Isaiah Jackson scored 24 points for Paragould, Hall had 16, Giles finished with 14, and Ashton Oakes added 13.

The Bombers fall to 0-2 on the season.

Mountain Home did not fare any better on the girls’ side, as they lost to the Lady Rams 41-21. The Lady Bombers had some decent looks early on, but the shots just weren’t falling, as all six of their first half points came at the charity stripe. Paragould was up 17 at the break, and the two teams played fairly even in the second half, as the Lady Rams posted the 20-point victory.

No one was in double figures for Mountain Home. Paragould was led by Shakira Brown with 14 points, and Carson De Fries chipped in 11.

The Lady Bombers’ record for the year drops to 0-2.

Both Mountain Home teams will begin their three-day run in the Branson Battle at the Border on Thursday, as their opening opponent will be Mount Vernon, Missouri. The girls’ game tips off at 4 followed by the boys’ contest.
