In high school basketball in the area Monday night, the annual Izard County Tournament got underway at Izard County High School.In senior boys’ action, Calico Rock raced past Salem 84-59 to improve to 13-3. Blythe Stapleton paced the Pirates with 25 points, Riley Whiteaker scored 16, Stratt Sanders had 14, and Carter Hiles scored 12 points. For the Greyhounds, Matthew Guffey had 15 points, and Tyler Siddons had 10.
In the senior girl’s game, Highland topped Calico Rock 49-21.
The junior boys’ game saw Cave City beat Salem 33-17.
In the junior girl’s game, Salem blasted Cave City 47-17. Allison Smith scored 15 for the Junior Lady Greyhounds.
The Yellville-Summit boys opened play in the Green Forest Tournament with a 78-33 loss to Lead Hill. For the Tigers, Cody Paul poured in 28 points, and Quintin Sewell had 17 points and 10 rebounds.
