Thursday basketball includes 2 wins for Melbourne at the Izard County Tournament

High school basketball in the area Thursday night:

In boys’ action:
-Norfork lost at home to Shirley 56-47. The Panthers are now 4-11.
-Gainesville lost to Ava 56-48
-Melbourne slid past Izard County 38-36 at the Izard County Tournament. The Bearkatz are now 4-1, while the Cougars fall to 8-5.
-Lead Hill was a 49-38 winner over Green Forest at the Green Forest Tournament. Cody Paul led the way for Lead Hill with 12 points, as they improve to 7-13 on the season.
-Bergman raced past Lincoln 78-57 to up its to 14-2.
-Harrison edged past Rogers Heritage 68-65
-Deer lost to Western Yell County 53-41.

In girls’ action:
-Melbourne was a 59-31 winner over Rural Special at the Izard County Tournament. The Lady Bearkatz move to 7-0 on the season. The Lady Rebels fall to 7-6.
-Valley Springs picked up a 73-47 win over Sheridan at the Benton Classic. The Lady Tigers improve to 9-4 on the campaign.
-Deer lost to Western Yell County 62-57. The Lady Antlers are now 5-5.

In junior high action:
-Yellville-Summit and Viola split four games. Yellville-Summit won the junior boys’ game 42-25 and took the seventh grade girls’ contest 19-3. Viola won the junior girls’ game 35-28 and the seventh grade boys’ contest 21-5.
