WASHINGTON (AP) – An eastern Missouri man was sentenced Friday to three years of probation for participating in the Jan. 6 riot at the U.S. Capitol.

Nicholas Burton Reimler, 29, of Valley Park, pleaded guilty in September to parading, demonstrating or picketing in the Capitol building, a misdemeanor.

Reimler was the first of 17 Missouri residents charged after the riot to be sentenced, The Kansas City Star reported.

According to the government’s sentencing document, Reimler entered the Capitol and walked through an area known as the Crypt and left after about 15 minutes. He was arrested after federal investigators were tipped off by people who saw videos Reimler posted on social media.

During the sentencing, U.S. District Judge Randolph Moss noted that Reimler did not engage in violent conduct or property destruction or go into the House or Senate chambers as other rioters did.

Before he was sentenced, Reimler apologized for being at the Capitol that day.
