Four Bakersfield area residents escaped a house fire in the wee hours Tuesday morning, according to Bakersfield Fire Chief Greg Watts.

The Ozark County Times reports the house, on Hall Street south of Bakersfield, sustained substantial damage.

Watts says his department was called out around 3:30 a.m. Tuesday and encountered a woman with a water hose trying to fight the fire.

Watts said the front of the house was in flames, and there were ATV tires on the ground by the house that were also on fire. The blaze had moved up to the eaves of the house, but firefighters “got in and got it knocked down pretty quickly,” Watts says.

The occupants of the house were Michael Hall, his wife and two younger females, Watts says.

Bakersfield VFD was assisted by Caulfield and Tecumseh fire departments, along with Ozark County Ambulance and the Ozark County Sheriff’s Department.

The fire, which originated outside near the front porch and traveled up the front wall, is under investigation, as the cause is undetermined at this point, according to Watts.

There were no injuries in connection with the fire.
