
Despite a wetter than average December, the Twin Lakes Area ended up falling below average for the entire year of 2021. At KTLO, Classic Hits and The Boot, the official reporting station for the National Weather Service in Mountain Home, 4.91 inches of rain were recorded in the final month of the year. That is 1.14 inches above the normal of 3.77.
The 24-hour precipitation of 3.56 inches recorded on the morning of Dec. 18 broke the record for that day. The previous record for Dec. 18 is 2.1 inches in 1995. It was one of six days in the month for rainfall to be recorded and the only one to have more than an inch.
The total amount of rainfall last year in Mountain Home was 48.2 inches. The city ended up 2.66 inches below the annual average of 50.86.
There was a second record broken in December. The high recorded on Christmas afternoon was 73 degrees. That number will be for Dec. 26, because weather data is recorded at 7 a.m. for the previous 24-hour period. The previous high for Dec. 26 was 72 set back in 1971.
The highest temperature for the month was 78 degrees on Dec. 3. The lowest temperature was 23 degrees on Dec. 20.
