While some school districts throughout Arkansas are switching to virtual learning due to the current surge in coronavirus cases, one area district is taking a different approach. Harrison Public Schools Superintendent Dr. Stewart Pratt posted a message Friday morning on the district’s website saying all students and staff will be required to wear masks and facial coverings beginning Monday.

Dr. Pratt says on Tuesday, six students and six staff members tested positive, and a total of 20 were quarantined. By Thursday, the numbers ballooned to 30 students and nine staff members testing positive and 141 in quarantine.

The mask requirement will be in effect through Jan. 21. Dr. Pratt says the district will review data and announce Jan. 20 if the requirement should be extended or allowed to expire.
