Friday basketball scores include mixed results for area teams in tournaments

The Gainesville girls were eliminated from the Sparta Lady Trojan Tournament on Friday. The Lady Bulldogs fell to Greenwood 55-28.

Three area high school basketball teams competed in the semifinals of the George Kell Classic on Friday. On the girls’ side, Salem fell to Marmaduke 49-29, and Melbourne defeated Valley View 65-41. Melbourne’s boys edged out Rivercrest 58-57.

The Dora boys got beat on the consolation side of the Seymour Bank Winter Classic. The Falcons lost to Bradleyville 61-46.

Yellville-Summit picked up two wins after going to Centerton for three games with Life Way Christian. The Lady Panthers took the senior girls’ game over the Lady Warriors 50-40. Yellville-Summit did not fare as well in the senior boys’ contest, as they fell to Life Way Christian 75-54. Yellville-Summit won the junior girls’ game 42-21.

Calico Rock’s boys were able to get a conference win at home. The Pirates toppled Rural Special 88-43.

Western Grove’s high school teams came away with a sweep over Omaha. The Bears won the boys’ game over the Eagles 66-33 and took the girls’ contest 60-29.

Izard County split a pair of girls’ games with Concord.
The Lady Cougars breezed past the Lady Pirates 49-29 in the senior high game. Abbie Gilbert was Izard County’s top scorer with 19 points, and Ava Lewis finished with 18.
The junior high contest had a different result, as Izard County fell to Concord 44-31. Quinn Johnson led the Junior Lady Cougars with 14 points, and Makensie Yancey ended up with 11.

The Dora girls had a rough night on their home floor. The Lady Falcons lost to Thayer 73-52.

Marshall’s boys were able to get a dominating win on the road. The Bobcats pounded Hector 80-51.

The Lead Hill boys were able to invoke the mercy rule on their way to a 76-44 victory over Deer. The Tigers were led by Dustin Turner with 18 points, Mason Cain had a double-double with 12 points and 11 rebounds, and Cody Paul and Quintin Sewell added 12 points each. Lead Hill will travel to Brockwell to face Izard County on Monday.

Bergman was able to sweep its high school games at Green Forest. The Lady Panthers destroyed the Lady Tigers 72-29 to remain undefeated on the season. Bergman’s boys followed with a 50-38 decision.

Valley Springs picked up a sweep at Kingston. The Tigers won the boys’ game over the Yellowjackets 65-55 and the girls’ contest 63-58.

Harrison ended up getting swept at Farmington. The Goblins fell to the Cardinals 50-47. Farmington also took the girls’ game 76-37.
