A Gassville couple avoided injury after their residence caught fire early Saturday morning. The house, located at 619 Buford Cutoff, was a total loss.
Gassville Fire Chief Michael Glotzl says the couple was awakened by the fire starting in the wood stove area of the living room. The cause of the fire is currently unknown, but no foul play was suspected.
Glotzl says the alarm came in just after midnight. Seventeen personnel from the Gassville and Cotter fire departments and the Cotter-Gassville Rural Fire Protection District were on the scene for 4 1/2 hours.
