A winter storm is making its way towards northern Arkansas and southern Missouri, which will cause snow to accumulate and may cause travel problems.

A winter storm watch is in effect for northern Arkansas from 6 Saturday morning until 6 Sunday morning. A winter weather advisory has been issued for southern Missouri from 3 Saturday morning until 9 Saturday night.

Chuck Rickard, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service in North Little Rock, says rain starts late Friday night and switches over to snow during the say Saturday.

Rickard says initially travel won’t be impacted because of the warm ground temperatures, but that will change, as we make our way through the day Saturday.

Rickard says the forecast may change some, as the storm system gets closer to the area and newer computer models come in. The winter storm watch is expected to be upgraded to either a winter storm warning or a winter weather advisory Friday afternoon.
