A man who attempted to burglarize a van parked at a local restaurant and ended up being held at gunpoint by the vehicle’s owner appeared in Baxter County Circuit Court Monday.
Thirty-one-year-old Robert L. Weaver of Mountain Home pled guilty to charges filed against him stemming from the mid-June 2021 incident.
He was sentenced to six years in prison with a judicial transfer to one of the five community correction centers in the state.
The centers offer a number of programs, including drug and alcohol treatment.
The incident that got Weaver arrested began when he entered the restaurant located along U.S. Highway 62B and drew attention to himself by his odd behavior.
He is reported to have asked to use the restroom, then entered and exited multiple doors.
Wait staff notified the restaurant owner, and Weaver was reported to have been seen on surveillance cameras outside the business checking vehicles and a storage building.
He looked into several vehicles but did not enter them. When Weaver finally grabbed the sliding door to the victim’s van and pulled it open, the victim exited the business with his firearm drawn and held Weaver at bay until authorities arrived.
Mountain Home police were the first officers on scene, and they arrested Weaver. He was then turned over to Baxter County sheriff’s deputies, as the restaurant’s building was not in the city limits.
