BUFFALO, Mo. (AP) — Police in the southwestern Missouri town of Buffalo report that one of its officers shot and injured a knife-wielding person during a confrontation on a city street.

The shooting happened Thursday evening when police were called to a business for reports of a person who had entered a business brandishing a knife and making threats, the Buffalo Police Department said on its Facebook page.

Officers found the person walking in and out of traffic along Ash Street and waving a knife, according to police, and officers unsuccessfully tried several times to disarm the person using non-lethal methods.

Police said the person charged an officer with the knife, leading the office to fire two shots. The person was hit and flown to an area hospital.

Police have not released the name or gender of the person shot or given an update on their medical condition. The name of the officer who shot the person also has not been released.
