Races develop for sheriff in Baxter, Marion counties

Races for sheriff have developed in both Baxter and Marion counties.An official three-way race for Baxter County sheriff developed Friday with the filing of incumbent Sheriff John Montgomery.

On Tuesday, John Pate filed for the position and on Wednesday, Henry Campfield entered the race. All three have filed as Republicans.

In Marion County, Dustin Beals has filed for sheriff, setting up a race in the Republican primary with Gregg Alexander who filed earlier this week.

BAXTER COUNTY

Also on Friday in Baxter County, incumbent justice of the peace Angela DeGroote filed for reelection.

Other filings on Friday in Baxter County included Billy Cox for District 9 constable, incumbent Douglas Stephens for District 1 constable and Daniel Carley for District 2 constable.

Carley’s filing sets up a race with Patrick Smith who filed for the District 2 seat on Wednesday.

Joseph Payne’s filing for Baxter County judge has set up an expected three-way race, with fellow Republicans Kevin Litty and Brian Plumlee who filed on opening day. All three had announced their intentions earlier.

A race has also developed for District 11 justice of the peace between incumbent Gary “Ty” Chapman and challenger Tom Canta on the Republican ticket.

Incumbents Roger Steele and William “Dirk” Waldrop have filed for reelection to the quorum court. Ernest Adkins filed for the District 10 seat on the court being vacated by Kevin Litty.

Other filings in Baxter County included incumbent Assessor Jayme Nicholson and Dale Jones for District 3 constable.

At Norfork, Elayna Southard filed for the Position 4 seat on the school board.

MARION COUNTY

Other filings in Marion County have resulted in a race for treasurer. Susann Crespino is the latest filing, following Anthony Todaro’s earlier this week.

Also in Marion County, incumbent Judge John Massey has filed for reelection. Filings also include quorum court incumbents Mike Scrima (Independent), Martin Nickels (Republican) and Rick White (Republican). John Reed has filed for the District 5 seat on the quorum court.

In Flippin, Roger Leonard has filed for the Position 4 seat on the school board, while Eleanor Davenport has filed for the Yellville-Summit school board.

The filing period closes at noon Tuesday.

FULTON COUNTY

Independent Barry Keen has filed for county surveyor and Republican Jackie Dean Privett has filed for the quorum court. Both are incumbents.

In addition, Independent John R. Emery has filed for the quorum court.

At Viola, incumbent Darick Brown has filed for the school board for Position 1, while Derek Winter has filed for Position 2.

SEARCY COUNTY

Republicans David Roberts and Tony Horton have filed for judge, while Kenny Cassell has filed for sheriff.

In addition, Chuck Seaton and Debbie Loggins have filed for county clerk, Randy Crumley for assessor and Mary Beth Martin for treasurer, all as Republicans.

Filings for the quorum court include Michelle Manes, Danny Loggins, Wayne Witcher, Rick Watts, Jason Ragland and Andy Treat. All are Republicans.

A race has developed for the District 8 seat on the quorum court between Cindi Silor (Republican) and Randy Rose (Democrat).
