Cotter, Norfork girls among regional semifinal winners

Several area high school basketball teams were in tournament play on Monday.

The Class 2A West Regional Tournament held its semifinal round at Eureka Springs.
Cotter’s girls were able to advance to the championship game. The Lady Warriors defeated Flippin by a final of 46-36.
Cotter’s last opponent in the tournament will be Mansfield. Yellville-Summit fell to the Lady Tigers 61-49.
The Cotter boys were not as fortunate as their female counterparts. The Warriors lost to Lavaca 54-37.

The semifinals of the Class 1A Region 2 Tournament were held at Hillcrest Elementary School in Lynn.
Norfork’s girls moved on to the title game following a rematch of last year’s state championship contest. The Lady Panthers topped Rural Special 46-31.
Mammoth Spring will be Norfork’s opponent after beating up on Greers Ferry West Side 66-36. Brynn Washam led the Lady Bears with 18 points, and Sara Crowe added 15. Mammoth Spring improves to 28-7 on the season.
Calico Rock was able to advance to the boys’ final. The Pirates pulled off the 49-44 upset over West Side.
Calico Rock’s next matchup will be with Marked Tree. Izard County fell to the Indians by a score of 51-37.

The Class 1A Region 1 Tournament semifinals were played at County Line High School in Branch.
The Western Grove girls picked up an easy win to advance to the championship game. The Lady Bears routed the host Lady Indians 72-43.
Western Grove will be paired with Kingston in the title contest. Jasper lost to the Lady Yellowjackets 51-41.
Western Grove did not fare as well on the boys’ side. The Bears fell to the New School 58-28.

The Class 2A Central Regional Tournament held its semifinals at White County Central High School in Providence.
Two area girls’ teams squared off in the first game of the day. Salem lost to Melbourne 53-37. The Lady Bearkatz remain unbeaten on the year.
Melbourne had a different result on the boys’ bracket. The Bearkatz suffered a 55-39 decision to St. Joseph from Conway.
Marshall will be Melbourne’s opponent in Tuesday’s third-place game. The Bobcats fell to Maumelle Charter 71-66.

Mountain View’s girls suffered an upset in the semifinals of the Class 3A Region 2 Tournament at Rose Bud. The Lady Yellowjackets were edged out by Pangburn 58-54.

Two area girls’ teams played for the championship of the Class 3A Region 1 Tournament at Booneville. Bergman beat Valley Springs 65-52. The Lady Panthers will head into the state tournament with an unbeaten record.

Both of Harrison’s teams finished in fourth place in the Class 4A North Regional Tournament at Farmington. The Lady Goblins lost to Gentry 46-33, and the Harrison boys fell to Shiloh Christian 69-60.

Three area boys’ team continued district play in Missouri.

West Plains’ season came to an end in the semifinals of the Class 5, District 5 Tournament at Marshfield. The Zizzers were eliminated by Rolla 61-56.

Two area teams met in the opening game of the Class 4, District 11 Tournament at Mountain Grove. Hollister ended up beating Forsyth 63-47. The Tigers will face top-seeded Ava in Wednesday’s semifinals.
