
Charges have been filed in Izard County Circuit Court against seven inmates of the North Central Arkansas Unit of the state prison system near Calico Rock stemming from incidents in early February.
According to the probable cause affidavits, the charges stem from multiple fights, broken windows and sheets being set afire.Three inmates were charged in connection with incidents on Feb. 2.
• 20-year-old Jessie Helms allegedly got into a fight with another inmate. After the fight, he broke six windows. The cost to replace the windows was $7,543. Helms is charged with first-degree criminal mischief (felony) and impairing the operation of a vital public facility (misdemeanor).
• 33-year-old Anthony Dennis was also involved in breaking windows. The incident was confirmed by video surveillance, along with an eye witness account from a corrections officer. The cost of replacing the windows was $14,677. Dennis is charged with criminal mischief (felony), impairing the operation of a vital public facility (misdemeanor), battery (misdemeanor) and riot (misdemeanor).
• 22-year-old Tattan Cummings allegedly punched an inmate and then set fire to a sheet tied to the window bars. Cummings is charged with arson (felony), impairing the operation of a vital public facility (misdemeanor), battery [two counts] (misdemeanor) and riot (misdemeanor).
Four inmates were charged in connection with an incident on Feb. 3.
• 20-year-old Davyon Walker reportedly punched an inmate with a closed fist. The inmate fell to the ground, and Walker reportedly continued to punch and kick him.
Shortly after the first attack, he approached the bed of a 70-year-old inmate and hit him. The inmate fell of the bed, and Walker continued to hit and kick him. The attack led to the 70-year-old inmate being transported to a hospital, where he was treated and released.
Walker then reportedly started a fight with a third inmate that involved him shoving the other man head first into a bench and throwing him to the ground. The fight was broken up by another inmate.
Walker then reportedly obtained a mop handle and approached and approached another inmate and began striking him. He later threw the handle on the floor.
He then reportedly went to the bed of yet another inmate, took his Bipap breathing machine and threw it to the floor. The cost to replace the machine was $1,286. Walker is charged batter [two counts] (felony), criminal mischief (felony) and battery [two counts] (misdemeanor).
• Lloyd Smith and Donte Davis, both 20 years old, were allegedly involved in breaking windows. After breaking the windows, they reportedly assaulted other inmates. Smith reportedly helped in igniting a fire to sheets in the barracks. Smith and Davis are charged with criminal mischief (felony), arson (felony), impairing the operation of a vital public facility (misdemeanor), riot (misdemeanor) and battery (misdemeanor).
• 20-year-old Steffon Hunter also reportedly broke out windows in a barrack. Hunter is charged with criminal mischief (felony), impairing the operation of a vital public facility (misdemeanor) and riot (misdemeanor).
