A few area high school basketball teams played their opening state tournament games on Saturday.
Norfork’s girls won the opening game of the day in the Class 1A State Tournament at Morrilton. The Lady Panthers defeated Jasper 67-43.
The Western Grove girls took the last game in the tournament’s first round. The Lady Bears got past Greers Ferry West Side 64-60.
Calico Rock’s boys were also victorious in the opening round. The Pirates were able to be Ozark Catholic by a final of 59-45.
Two area teams took part in the Class 2A State Tournament at Junction City. The Salem girls were able to dominate Lafayette County 57-28. The season ended for Melbourne’s boys with a 57-47 loss to Junction City.
Two area girls’ teams squared off in the opening round of the Class 3A State Tournament at North Arkansas College in Harrison. Mountain View was eliminated by Valley Springs 67-51.
