
A few high school basketball teams were in state quarterfinal action on Sunday.
Norfork is one win away from its second consecutive appearance in the title game. The Lady Panthers routed Mount Vernon-Enola 63-33 in the Class 1A State Tournament at Morrilton.
Norfork’s next opponent in the semifinals will be Kirby. Western Grove ended up getting eliminated by the Lady Trojans 53-44.
Mammoth Spring breezed its way to a 60-37 victory over Wonderview in the first girls’ game of the day. Brynn Washam led the Lady Bears 27 points. Mammoth Spring improves to 31-7 on the season.
Calico Rock’s boys also advanced to the semifinals. The Pirates defeated Wonderview by a final of 62-55.
Two area girls’ teams advanced to the final four of the Class 2A State Tournament in Junction City.
Salem destroyed another group of Lady Greyhounds from Marmaduke 69-36. Salem was led by Chelsea Hamilton with 23 points, and Marleigh Sellars added 20. Salem is now 22-8.
Melbourne took another step toward its fourth straight state title. The Lady Bearkatz remain unbeaten after pounding Rector 63-30.
Two other area girls’ teams are now in the semifinals of the Class 3A State Tournament on the south campus of North Arkansas College in Harrison.
Bergman advances with an undefeated mark. The Lady Panthers destroyed Mayflower by a score of 69-38.
Valley Springs was also able to move to the semifinals. The Lady Panthers got past Centerpoint 54-48.
