No injuries have been reported and only minor damage after severe thunderstorms moved through the Twin Lakes Area Sunday night. However, further to the south and east substantial damage and injuries have been reported.
A spokesman for the Izard County Sheriff’s Office says some mobile homes were damaged and trees downed in the Sage and Zion areas east of Melbourne.
In Sharp County, the sheriff’s office reports a tornado was on the ground about 8 Sunday evening in the Bear Creek Road Area in Evening Shade. A trained storm spotter with the sheriff’s office observed the tornado.
A short time later, Sharp County 911 Dispatch received numerous calls regarding damage and injuries.
A home on Jack School House Road, near the Sharp/Izard county line, was blown into the county road and completely destroyed. Four residents inside the home were injured.
Several other homes in the area sustained damage from the high winds and trees, including the residence of former Norfork resident Carrie Sutterfield Eoff and her family on Strawberry River Road in Evening Shade.
The Sharp County Sheriff’s Office, Sharp County Department of Emergency Management and Road Department, Arkansas Forestry Department, Spring River Ambulance Service, Evening Shade Fire Department, Sidney Fire Department, Cave City Fire/Police Department, Zion Fire Department, Arkansas State Police and the Arkansas Game and Fish responded to the area.
Once in the area, first responders encountered numerous trees completely blocking all of the roads.
Five people were injured during the storm, but all injuries were believed to be non-life threatening, according to the Sharp County Sheriff’s Office.
In Stone County, the sheriff’s office reports some minor damage in the Oney area.
Survey crews from the National Weather Service were expected to visit several counties in the area to officially determine if the damage was from a tornado.
There were numerous tornado warnings issued Sunday night for northern Arkansas and southern Missouri. No confirmed tornadoes have been reported by the National Weather Service.
