
There was high school baseball and softball in the area Thursday.
In softball action:
-Flippin opened the season and a new ballpark with a 9-5 win at home over Elkins. Maddie Lindsey got the win in the circle, allowing two earned runs in seven innings. At the plate, Allie Downs had three hits and scored twice, Adrianne Benedict drove in two runs, Gretchen Wegener had two doubles and an RBI, and Jayden Spoon scored two runs.
-Calico Rock swept a double header against Rural Special. The Lady Pirates won by scores of 12-0 and 10-1 to improve to 3-0.
-Izard County run-ruled Cotter 11-1 for their first win. Quinn Johnson led the way for the Lady Cougars with three hits, including two doubles, and two runs batted in; Katie Orf also had three hits and drove in two; and Julia Setzer had two hits and two RBI. Megan McBride got the win in the circle, allowing just one hit and striking out nine in five innings.
On the baseball diamonds:
-Norfork lost at Greers Ferry West Side 11-1.
-Izard County whipped Concord 14-4 to improve to 3-0. Kasen Black led the charge with three hits, two runs batted in and two runs. Noah Mosley had two hits, drove in two runs and scored two runs; Denton Reiley had two RBI and scored twice; Tyler Morehead drove in two; Gunner Gleghorn and Landon McBride each drove in one run; and Garrett Roberts and Remington Taylor each scored twice. Morehead got the win on mound in relief, giving up no hits or runs in two innings of work.
-Melbourne fell at Clinton 9-8.
