Elayna Southard announces her candidacy for Position 4 on the Norfork School Board. Her filing has set up a race with incumbent Chad McGowan.

Southard resides in Norfork with her husband, Travis, a lifelong resident of southern Baxter County, and their two sons, Case, who is in fourth grade at Norfork Elementary, and Uriah, who will begin kindergarten at Norfork Elementary this coming school year.

Southard is the longtime branch manager at Anstaff Bank in Norfork.

Southard is the organizer/director of the youth basketball program she started at Norfork Area Youth Center four years ago.

After seeing the lack of a basketball program in Norfork for her own children and all younger children, Southard created the Mini Panthers & Pirates Basketball program. The program sees that 80 plus area children preschool through sixth grade have an opportunity to play organized basketball each year in Norfork. She was also the league representative for the Norfork Youth Baseball and Softball League for four years.

Southard says about her basketball program, “I saw a need in the community and found a solution. I hope to bring that same attitude and determination with me to the Norfork school board.”

If elected, Southard would be one of few women to ever serve on the Norfork School Board. She says being a mother of Norfork students and an active community member gives her the ability and perspective to listen to the community’s concerns and goals for the Norfork School District.
