Area baseball, softball Thursday: Izard County baseball, Salem softball stay unbeaten

Several area high school baseball and softball teams saw action Thursday.

On the baseball diamond:
-Flippin squeezed by Norfork 7-6. The Bobcats improve to 5-2, while the Panthers fall to 3-3.
-Izard County is now 5-0 on the campaign after a 10-0 shutout of Calico Rock. Landon McBride had a grand slam, a double and drove in five runs; Noah Mosley and Xander McCandlis each had two hits and an RBI, and Denton Reiley scored three runs for the Cougars.
-Salem moved to 3-1 on the season with an 11-0 win over Mammoth Spring. The Bears fall to 1-4.
-Melbourne whipped White County Central 16-2 to improve to 3-2.

In softball action:
-Izard County handed Calico Rock its first loss 2-1. For the Lady Cougars, who improve to 2-2, Megan McBride got the win in the circle, giving up just three hits and striking out 10. Makensie Yancey had two hits, including a home run, and scored twice. Natalie Glass had two hits, and Hollie Johnson drove in a run.   The Lady Pirates fall to 4-1.
-Salem is now 4-0 after edging past Midland 5-4.
-Valley Springs lost both ends of a double header at Lincoln, falling by scores of 15-5 and 13-3.
-Harrison lost to Gentry 7-6.
